Masters Swimmers Profiles 

Through international competitions in Hawaii, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore, Professor Chau had the chance to challenge himself to another level. In Singapore (Asia Pacific Masters & Singapore Masters) he was able to compete and complete in the toughest events which are not available for masters swimmers in Hong Kong (the 400m Individual Medley, 200m Fly and 1500m Freestyle events)

Professor Chau hopes to be able to compete and complete in all FINA individual events. This is one of his swimming goals and he wishes to achieve more personal best and overcome personal limits.  

It is through such international meets that he is able to meet national swimmers like Olympic medalist (Miss Junko Onishi, Japan), Chinese National record holder (Mr. Zheng Qiliang, China) and our very own - world's fastest swimmer for 50m Freestyle in 1982 (Mr. Ang Peng Siong, Singapore). Professor Chau enjoys the atmospheres at each meet and he will definitely be back for more.

After a time teaching in Fairfax, Virginia and swimming with the DC Masters Swim Team, Susan decided to make a major change in her life and accepted a teaching position in Milan, Italy. There, she joined an Italian Masters team and enjoyed success at the local, European and World levels. Her next teaching stop was Munich, Germany, where again, she joined a masters team.

Recently, Susan has moved to Shanghai, China, where there is no masters team. The school has a pool so she swims every morning before work. She is joined occasionally by high school swimmers.  

The Standard Chartered Asia Pacific Masters was her first visit to Singapore and she hopes to come and swim again. Susan won  4 individual golds in the category for Women 50-54 (1500m Free, 200m Free, 200m Individual Medley, 100m Fly) and a silver in the 4 x 50m Mixed Freestyle Relay.

Mr. Kung is a practicing GP and previously represented Malaya (now Malaysia) in the SEAP Games Rangoon in 1961, Asian Games Jakarta and Commonwealth Games Perth in 1962. Whilst he used to swim competitively in his school days... that was 4 decades ago and Mr. Kung only resumed swimming as a form of exercise a year and a half ago. Mr. Kung swims three times a week at the SAFRA Mt Faber swimming pool.

“I enjoy swimming and taking part in a swim meet like this gives me something to look forward to and purpose in training. It’s also a lot of fun and a healthy and enjoyable way to get fit!” - Mr. Kung Siang Yo, 62.
